Micro-Zone Actuator Bridges: Translating Local LIN and CAN to TSN Packets

Interfacing legacy subnets and smart mechatronic actuators with high-speed zonal backbones via microsecond translation layers.

While major vehicle backbones migrate to Ethernet, thousands of simple peripheral devices—such as door mirror adjusters, seat heaters, ambient LEDs, and tire pressure sensors—remain economically suited for low-cost Local Interconnect Network (LIN) or classical CAN buses.

Zone Controllers act as protocol translation bridges: local microcontrollers ingest cyclic LIN and CAN frames, unpack the underlying sensor signals, and encapsulate them into service-oriented SOME/IP or DDS publications over the vehicle's central Ethernet network. This allows central software-defined applications to interact with low-cost peripheral actuators as abstract cloud-native services.
